CMRL to Develop Large-Scale Parking Facility at OTA - Nanganallur Road Metro Station
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is set to significantly expand parking capacity at the OTA–Nanganallur Road Metro station by developing a new facility on land recently reclaimed by the State government. The site, which previously housed a popular restaurant, was demolished following an Alandur Judicial Court ruling directing the lessee to vacate the property.
The government has now handed over the 40,000 sq.ft plot to CMRL, which plans to convert it into a dedicated parking area capable of accommodating around 500 vehicles. Work will include clearing the site, paving, marking spaces, and creating access ramps. The facility will be a 5–10 minute walk from the Metro station.
CMRL officials noted a rising demand for parking at the station due to limited last-mile connectivity. With many commuters relying on two-wheelers to reach the Metro, the expanded parking space is expected to ease congestion and encourage more passengers to use the service once the facility becomes operational.
