Heavy Rain Causes Traffic Jam on GST Road in Tambaram
Due to the heavy rain lashing Chennai’s suburban areas, there has been severe traffic congestion on the GST Road near Tambaram. The northeast monsoon began in Tamil Nadu on October 16, bringing widespread rainfall across several districts. In many areas, intense downpours have also been reported.
A low-pressure area that formed over the Bay of Bengal on October 24 has now strengthened into a cyclone named “Montha”, marking the first cyclone of this northeast monsoon season. Following the storm’s intensification, heavy rain has been recorded across Chennai’s suburban regions.
Areas such as Anna Nagar, Kilpauk, Chetput, Nungambakkam, Kodambakkam, Egmore, Purasawalkam, Tambaram, Guindy, and Vepery have been receiving moderate to heavy rainfall. As a result, traffic congestion on GST Road in Tambaram has disrupted movement for students, office-goers, and daily commuters, causing major delays this morning.
