SETC to Introduce Multi-Axle Volvo Buses by December
The State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) is set to enhance passenger comfort and safety with the introduction of its first fleet of multi-axle Volvo buses by December this year.
A senior SETC official said these 15-metre-long buses will offer superior comfort, advanced safety features, and better driving ergonomics, setting new standards in long-distance travel. The initiative aims to help the state-run transport service compete with private operators in the premium segment.
In the first phase, 20 buses will be introduced across key intercity routes.
Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar, along with Transport Secretary Shunchonngam Jatak Chiru and other officials, recently inspected the new buses at the Volvo manufacturing facility in Bengaluru.
The official added that while the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) in Chennai currently operates single-axle Volvo buses, the new multi-axle models for SETC will offer increased space and enhanced passenger comfort.
