Missing Lion Sheru Found at Vandalur Zoo’s Safari Area - Drone Surveillance Continues
After five days of intense search operations, the missing male lion ‘Sheru’ from the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur has been located inside the Lion Safari area, zoo officials confirmed today.
The lion was spotted using a drone equipped with thermal imaging cameras, and a team of five staff members is currently monitoring the animal’s movements round the clock. According to zoo management, *Sheru* is safe and is expected to return to his enclosure soon, as lions typically come back to their cages for food.
The 5-year-old lion had been released into the 28-hectare Lion Safari zone last Wednesday morning but failed to return for its evening meal — triggering concern among officials and visitors alike. Initially, park authorities assumed the lion was wandering within the vast safari area and would return after a few days. However, its prolonged absence led to a full-scale search using drones and tracking teams.
Zoo authorities have assured the public that the situation is under control and that the lion poses no danger to visitors. Continuous drone monitoring will continue through the night until *Sheru* safely returns to his enclosure.
