The IT corridor is set to get a major boost as Chennai Metro Rail’s Phase II project progresses, with an elevated interchange station coming up at Sholinganallur. The station, expected to be ready in about two years, will connect Corridor 3 (Madhavaram–SIPCOT) and Corridor 5 (Madhavaram–Sholinganallur), allowing passengers to switch seamlessly between the two lines.
The unique design features multiple levels: a plaza at the first level, a grade separator at the second, the Corridor 3 platform at 21.8 metres, and the Corridor 5 platform at 28.8 metres. An adjoining eight-storey building will also be linked to the station, with parking on the first floor and office/retail spaces planned on upper levels.
Officials said the Sholinganallur station will resemble a plus sign from above, with crisscrossing corridors for easier transfers. A similar structure is also under construction at Thoraipakkam, but passengers can change trains between Corridor 3 and 5 only at Sholinganallur.
