Trials successful - From 15th August, ration items to be delivered at homes in TN!!
This 15th August would be doubly special for the people belonging to Tamil Nadu. The sensational news is that a decision has been taken to deliver the ration items to homes from 15th August.
It is now said that for about 16lakhs homes across TN the ration items would be delivered directly in the homes. The decision regarding direct door delivery of the ration items was taken after the success of a trial attempt that was carried out.
In TN, all ration card holders are being provided with free rice, wheat, sugar, dal etc every month at subsidised rates. Point is that to prevent any irregularities in the distribution the ration items are provided only when any of the ration card members visits the ration shops and registers their fingerprints on point of sale devices.
It is worth mentioning that senior citizens and those who are unable to walk could send someone else to buy the ration items. The authorization form must be filled up in the food distribution dept offices.
In this scenario, the TN govt has taken a decision to provide ration items( through ration shop workers) to senior citizens who are above the age of 70 and differently able persons etc
From 1st to 5th July, this scheme was implemented on the trial basis in 10 ration shops each in Chennai, Tirunelveli, Sivagangai, Dindigul, Erode, Ranipt, Dharmapuri, Nagai, Nilgiris and Cuddalore.
The ration items were taken to the homes of 70 card holders in each shop and were distributed in a van. This made many senior persons as well as differently able persons happy.
This new scheme of door delivery of ration items would come into effect across TN from 15th of August and chief minister Mr. M.K. Stalin would be inaugurating the scheme. For this, 16lakh ration card holders have been chosen and ration items would be delivered at their homes.
