Important advice from TN Public Health Department for the public regarding Nipah virus attack!!

Have you recently visited Kerala and feeling unwell after coming back, then please immediately visit a government hospital nearby and get your health checked!!

In the neighbouring state of Kerala, Nipah virus has been causing infections in the districts of Palakkad and Malappuram. This has been brought out by a report. The TN government is monitoring the situation.

It must be taken into account that no Nipah virus infection has been reported so far in Tamil Nadu. The Public health department of TN has advised the residents to stay calm, vigilant and follow safety procedures etc.

What is Nipah virus infection?

A bat borne zoonotic virus causes the infection in humans and this is Nipah virus infection. The shocking piece of information is that this infection has a high mortality rate. This infection is transmitted to humans from animals like fruit bats, pigs etc. Eating fruit contaminated with bats saliva or close contact with the infected person could transmit this infection.

It must be noted that if any person shows symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, confusion, insomnia, breathing issues and seizures etc travel to Kerala or come into contact with infected persons then they must immediately go to the nearest government hospital.

The TN Public Health dept has advised the residents not to eat unwashed or fallen fruits etc. They have asked the residents to wash their hands thoroughly with water and soap. The district health officers have been asked to keep monitoring the disease prevention activities and take the necessary precautions etc.

It is important to mention here that the TN government has been taking many precautionary steps regarding spreading of Nipah virus infection. Hence, the residents of TN have been asked not to panic regarding Nipah virus infection.
