Aavin to open 2 new production/manufacturing centres in Madhavaram and Acharapakkam in Chennai!!
Aavin or Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Association is a public sector undertaking under the dairy department of TN. Aavin manufactures milk and milk products and sells them through 27 unions in TN. It has been involved in procurement, processing and refrigeration and sale of milk in Tamil Nadu. Every day, 30litres of milk is being sold at Aavin outlets across the state and that is superb.
The important piece of information now is that the Aavin management has taken a decision to open 2 manufacturing centres in places like Madhavaram and Acharapakkam in Chennai. The main objective behind this would be to increase the milk production.
Point to be noted is that many organisations have been competing with Aavin but Aavin overtakes them in quality and price etc. There are also milk brands like Amul etc (from the Gujarat state) that have been increasing its branches across TN.
In this scenario, Aavin has taken an important decision of setting up 2 manufacturing plants in Madhavaram and Acharapakkam in Chennai.
In 2019-20, Aavin milk sales across TN were about 23lakh litres and it increased by more than 7lakh litres in 2024/25. This was mainly due to several steps taken by the TN govt. Thirty lakh litres of milk per day is being sold now. This was according to some officials from Aavin.
The officials then mentioned that for the production of 10lakh litres of milk per day manufacturing centre would be set up in Madhavaram and for the production of one lakh litres of milk per day manufacturing centre would be set up at Acharapakkam in Chennai. By the month of March in 2026, these 2 new manufacturing centres would come to use.
