In a unique initiative to raise awareness about water conservation, IIT Madras has released a song featuring the names of 125 rivers in Tamil Nadu. The song, composed by Dr. Kanniks Kannikeswaran—an IIT alumnus—has been sung by renowned vocalists Unnikrishnan, Srinivas, and their daughters Uttara Unnikrishnan and Saranya Srinivas.
This initiative is part of the efforts by the International Centre for Clean Water (ICCW), founded by IIT alumni, to protect and restore traditional water bodies. ICCW aims to help people recognize and remember the rivers, while also promoting the importance of preserving them.
Earlier, the organization had released a similar song highlighting rivers across India, sung by Bombay Jayashree, her son Amrit Ramnath, Kaushiki Chakravarthy, and Rishit Desikan.
