The T.N. Highways Department has initiated temporary repairs on major Chennai roads damaged in the December 2023 floods, allocating ₹20 crore for 28 projects. The repairs include key routes such as Velachery-Tambaram Road and Tambaram - Mudichur Road. Emergency repairs were initially undertaken, and the current work is expected to last for an extended period. Some roads, like Tambaram-Mudichur Road, haven`t been fully restored after stormwater drain and water line projects, leading to concerns from residents. The repair efforts, funded by the State, aim to address the insufficient funds allocated by the Centre for nine districts affected by the floods. Nighttime work is planned to minimize traffic disruptions, with the repairs estimated to take 10 days. In total, ₹250 crore from the State government has been allocated for temporary road repairs across Tamil Nadu, with specific amounts designated for various districts, including ₹25.17 crore for Tiruvallur, ₹11 crore for Chengalpattu, and ₹9.10 crore for Kancheepuram.
