The long wait is over now!!
The residents of Manapakkam in Chennai suffering without water supply have now opened the eyes of the Chennai Metro Water. Soon, metro water would be providing piped water supply to several neighbourhoods in Chennai.
It is noteworthy that in the month of May for about 10 days, the residents belonging to Manappakkam in Chennai did not have water. This made the lives of 12000 families here very difficult. The public bore well that provided water to these residents soon became dry and private water tankers were hired by many residents here.
The added areas of GCC like Nerkundram, Madipakkam, Ramapuram, Manapakkam, Madhavaram etc would get the piped water supply before the end of 2023. By this, nearly 8 lakhs residents would benefit. In about two years, places like Semmencheri and Neelankarai etc would also get piped water supply.
Truth is that 12 years after being added to GCC, many localities in Chennai would be getting piped water supply. As per a resident activist from Semmencherry, many residents use water from panchayat wells or private wells etc. He added that water in the Panchayat wells are not treated. He concluded that treated water could be obtained once the metro water begins supply.
As a part of Rs 508.03 project, pipelines have been already laid in the areas except Semmenchery and Neelankarai etc. By the year 2025, these 2 places would get pipelines. According to another resident here, Rs 6000 to Rs 7000 was spent every month to procure water from private water tankers. He expressed his happiness regarding his locality getting water supply by 2025. It is learnt that the piped water supply here would benefit about 51000 residents.
Now, in Madhavaram, most of the works have been completed and trials are being conducted by the metro water board to find leakage etc. This was mentioned by an engineer from MW.
