The sensational news is that Mahabalipuram would be developed as the sixth new satellite town near Chennai. It would encompass 25 revenue villages near the historical site. It must be noted as the State Housing and Urban Development Board had notified the list of villages.
It must not be forgotten that in the state Assembly, the Governor of TN Mr. N. Ravi caught the attention of many with his speech. He announced that a new satellite town would be created near Mahabalipuram on the East Coast Road or ECR.
The various revenue villages identified were Valavanthangal, Santhanampattu,Nemeli, Krishnankaranai, Thiruporur, Saluvankuppam, Pattipulam, Thandalam, Vengaleri, Alathur, Paiyanur, Karungullipallam, Sirudavur, Adiganamallur,Karanai, Kunnapattu, Panjanthiruthi, Dakshinavarthi, Amur, Porundavakkam, Kokkilimedu, Mahabalipuram, Kadambadi, Poonjeri, Perumaleri-Vadakadambadi- Nallanpillaipettral etc.
Objections or suggestions must be given in writing about the proposal to the government within 2 months from the date of publication of the notification. This could be done by any inhabitant or any local authority or institution etc.
It is now said that the objections or suggestions which might be received within the mentioned period of time would be taken into consideration before pursuing further action in terms of sub section 4 of the Section 10 of the said Act.

Not only in Mahabalipuram, but new towns would also be created in Chengalpet, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Thirumazhisai and Minjur etc. It is learnt that the new town in Chengalpet would cover 60 revenue villages and the one at Kancheepuram would cover 17 revenue villages. The new towns in Thirumazhisai and Tiruvallur would cover 17 and 11 revenue villages respectively and 12 revenue villages would be covered in the Minjur town.
