Kilambakkam bus terminus in south Chennai is now making news for this important reason now!!
As the CMDA has not yet given permission for the joint inspection with the Directorate for Welfare of the Differently abled or DWD, the access audit for the Kilambakkam bus terminus is not yet complete.
It must be noted that this audit was necessary to reveal and enable CMDA to rectify flaws in the accessible features specified under the Right of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.
It was later mentioned by the Directorate for Welfare for Differently abled that they were awaiting a reply from Mr. Anshul Mishra, CMDA member secretary to conduct an access audit to make sure that the new bus terminus was friendly for the differently able persons.
According to an official in the Directorate, it was clear that they have requested for a joint inspection (of the Kilambakkam bus terminus) by the access audit team with the CMDA officers, assistant director of DWD plus by the representatives from organisations for persons who are differently able etc. He was hoping for the announcement of the state for the access audit.
As per Mr. Anshu Mishra, the access audit would be carried out before the bus terminus gets opened for the public. He then spoke about how all the toilets and buildings were provided with a 1:12 ratio ramp with 2 levels of handrails. He revealed the presence of tactile and textured paving surfaces to help the visually impaired pedestrians from the main entrance to the bus bay in the main building of the bus terminus.
