The Tamil Nadu government has issued an ordinance granting administrative permission for Rs. 195 crore to construct a new flyover in the Valluvar district of Chennai.

Valluvar Kottam Junction, one of the busiest junctions in Chennai, sees thousands of vehicles passing through it daily. Minister KN Nehru announced in the recent Legislative Assembly that a new flyover would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 98 crore to alleviate traffic congestion at this junction.

According to the plan, a new 570 m long flyover will be built at Valluvar Kottam Junction in Chennai. The flyover will begin in front of Palmgrove Hotel and end at Kodambakkam highway. Similar to the Vadapalani and Koyambedu flyovers, it will be a four-lane structure. Notably, the flyover will enable vehicles coming from Valluvar Kottam Highway to directly access Uttamar Gandhi Road.

To facilitate the construction of the flyover at Valluvar Kottam junction, the Tamil Nadu government has issued an order granting administrative permission for Rs. 195 crore for land acquisition and construction works. The allocation includes Rs. 67.16 crore for the construction of the flyover and Rs. 113.19 crore for land acquisition. The project requires 8014 sq m of government land and 2883 sq m of private land. With the funds now allocated, it is anticipated that the land acquisition work will commence soon.
