Latest details on the localised solutions for resolving water logging issues in Chennai!!

During the NE monsoon season, waterlogging has become an important issue for the residents belonging to Chennai. It is now said that GCC has adopted localised solutions for resolving this issue.

As per the GCC Commissioner,Mr. Gagadeep Singh Bedi after the onset of NE monsoon rains the engineers belonging to GCC were asked to go to a number of places for providing localised solutions.

He then spoke about how there were complaints about water logging in Tamil Salai in Egmore before Hotel Matsya in the previous rains and how the engineers installed Hume pipes. It must be taken into account that hume pipes were installed overnight by a team of Regional Deputy Commissioner North Mr. Sivaraguru Prabhakaran and a zonal officer.

Old brick drain structure at Pallavan Salai in Kolathur in Chennai was causing issues and GCC instead of constructing a new drain has put up a precast drain structure in the last 2 days. The work would be completed by tomorrow and it would ease the water flow in that place.

Some officers from GCC have mentioned that in the Tondiarpet zone in north Chennai a number of drains entering Buckingham Canal shutters along with pumping of water has been introduced. By this water would be prevented from flowing back into the local habitations. To offer localised solutions, the engineers changed the entire watershed from Adyar to Cooum in case of flooding in Aziz Nagar and in Subramaniapuram.

It is learnt that water from Subramanipuram and Aziz Nagar was diverted to Trustpuram canal which goes to Cooum. Point is that in the normal usual circumstances, the water would go to the Mambalam canal and then to Adyar. By this, there is now superb relief provided to T. Nagar and at critical habitats etc.

Information is that through the local railway station area, water was diverted to the Buckingham canal at Ripon Buildings area. Opposite to the Police Commissioners Office on PH Road, the localised solutions have been superb in this monsoon season. Huge precast drains have been installed in a bid to divert water to Cooum. For this, GCC joined hands with railways and the Highways dept.
