Bus terminus flooded now in Chennai, many passengers face issues!!

Posted on: 09/Nov/2022 9:09:42 AM
It has become common in the monsoon season for the commuters using public transport to face issues in the form of slushy bus termini, leaking bus roof tops and poor sanitation etc.

Over the years, the height of the roads have been increased and due to this many bus termini about 35 in Chennai have the risk of getting flooded in the rainy season. Poor maintenance of bus terminus could be witnessed at Broadway bus terminus in north Chennai.  It is from here that many MTC buses go to suburban places in Chennai.

It was mentioned by a trader from Tambaram that the footpath was the only place for shelter for the public during rains. Even that has been occupied fully by many shops and restaurants.

There are also many complaints from the MTC bus passengers about flooding issues in bus terminus at core places in Chennai. These places are Mandaveli, Perambur, Ayanavaram, Anna Nagar west. Korattur and Mogappair east and west etc. The increased road height in these localities in Chennai has been leading to flooding in the bus terminus situated in these places.

It was brought to light by consumer activist Mr. Sadagopan that the bus terminus present at western suburbs covering Ambattur Industrial Estate, Ambattur OT, Avadi etc have been covered with roofs. The passengers in these above said places face issues due to rain water stagnation.

Even after mild rains, the bus terminus located in places in south Chennai such as Thiruvanmiyur, iyyappanthangal, Vadapalani, Medavakkam and Kannagi Nagar etc get water stagnation and the passengers face issues. It is now said that the MTC bus commuters want MTC to take steps to monetise the bus terminus. It was mentioned by a senior officer from MTC that a few bus terminals located in places like Mogappair east and Mogappair west were being renovated.
