GPS enabled meters for auto-rickshaws put off for time being

The Transport authorities of Tamil Nadu had earlier planned to have autos fitted with GPS enabled meters but this could not materialize due to paucity of time since they have to comply with the deadline fixed by the Supreme Court to determine the meter-based fares for auto rickshaws. GPS enabled meters issue will be dealt later.
The state government had on July 22 sought two more months from the Supreme Court to revise the fares and introduce GPS-enabled meters. The apex court granted the state an extra month to comply with its order.
