Book readers across the state of Tamil Nadu have now got a reason to rejoice!!

The book readers would not have to go out of their homes to read books as the books would be delivered to them at their doorsteps itself. The Tamil Nadu government took many by surprise when it started to deliver medicines at the doorsteps of the public and soon books would also be delivered at the doorsteps.

In as many as 2500 libraries in the state, TN Directorate of Public Libraries would  launch Noolagam Nanbargal or Friends of  Library Scheme. In the 2022-23 budget, the implementation of  Noolagam Nanbargal Scheme in TN was announced by the school education minister Mr. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.

In the beginning, 5 volunteers for each library in TN would be chosen and they would be delivering several books at the doorsteps of the readers. This selection of the volunteers would be carried out by the TN Directorate ofPublic Libraries. Efforts would be taken to create awareness among the public regarding the importance of books and reading. There would be a meeting of several librarians in the next week at district levels and a notification about selecting volunteers would be issued.

Information gathered is that the scheme would be implemented in 31 district central libraries, 300 full-time branch libraries, 1463 other libraries and 706 village libraries across the state.

With many electronic gadgets available these days, people have stopped going to the libraries to read books. The TN government has now taken the right step to make many young people read books.

The volunteers who would be delivering books at the doorsteps would not be paid any salary but would be provided Rs 500 per year if they performed well. It is now revealed that a large number of people will be engaged in books and libraries in the future in TN.
