Good news about the upcoming 4th desal plant in Perur in Chennai!!

Perur in Chennai would soon become an important place s 4th desalination plant is coming up there.
The superb piece of information is that this new desalination plant could treat 400 million litres of water per day and is being constructed at a cost of Rs 5000 crores. This desalination plant would be ready to use from 2026 onwards.
It must be noted that this desalination plant is being constructed at Perur that is just a few kilometres away from the Nemmeli desalination plant. The construction of this new plant would start from January 2023 onwards. To construct the desalination plant with the capacity to treat 400 mld, CMWSSB is evaluating bids now. In 2 streams of 200mld each, plants would be coming up in 2 streams . The advantage of desalination plants coming up in 2 streams is that even when maintenance work is going on 200 mld of treated water could be obtained.
Environmental factors such as erosion management pane and safe disposal of brine into the sea etc would be taken into consideration while designing the desalination plant. In this new desalination plant, the production cost of treated water would be Rs 33.52 per kilolitre.
Southern suburban places like Tambaram, Chitlapakkam, Valasaravakkam , Sembakkam and Mangadu etc would get water supply from this new desalination plant. Truth is that more than 22 lakhs people would benefit from this upcoming plant. The officials of CMWSSB have revealed that this new desalination plant would be commissioned in July 2026.
Third desal plant at Nemmeli:
It is now mentioned that 60 percent work has been completed on the third desalination plant of 150 mld capacity at Nemmeli. Construction of 18 structures out of 23 treatment units has been going on now. This desalination plant would be coming up on 10.5 acres of land at Nemmeli.
