In the future, steps would be taken by Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC to set up engineering colleges and medical colleges. This was mentioned by Mr. K.N. Nehru, municipal administration minister. He was busy yesterday launching a new logo for the Chennai Corporation run schools.
The chief minister of TN Mr. M.K. Stalin has been implementing several projects in Chennai to bring in all round development. Truth is that the transport corporations have been running medical and engineering colleges with 32percent seats reserved for them. By this, the kids of the transport corporation employees would be able to pursue higher education.
The municipal administration then spoke about how GCC would also be setting up engineering and medical colleges. The support from the state health minister is very important. A documentary on Chennai schools was released by Mr. K. N. Nehru yesterday. It showed infrastructure and the teaching methods used in the schools. Badges were distributed to the school students.
It must be noted that at present less than 5percent of school students from GCC schools pursue higher education. It is now revealed that this initiative from GCC to start engineering and medical colleges would provide the students with more opportunities to do higher studies.
Point is that in the year 2014 that a proposal to start a medical college in Communicable Diseases Hospital in Tondiarpet was shelved by the government at that time. This happened after the GCC officers began their work on the certification process that was needed to establish a medical college.
