Weather: Prospects for heavy rains till 1st September!

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects for heavy rains in Tamil Nadu until 1st September.

There are prospects for heavy rains today (Monday, 29th August) in 1 or 2 places in Vellore, Thirupathur, Ranippettai, Thiruvannamalai, Kallakkurichi, Perambalur, Trichy, Karur, Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Erode, Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Thenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari districts.

30th & 31st August

There are prospects for heavy rains in 1 or 2 places in Erode, Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Thenkasi, Thirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukkudi, Pudhukkottai, delta districts and Karaikkal.

1st September

There are prospects for heavy rain in 1 or 2 places in Erode, Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Thenkasi, Thirunelveli, Kanyakumari, and Thoothukkudi districts.

Chennai Metro City

As regards Chennai Metro City, the sky will remain somewhat cloudy in the next 48 hours! There are prospects for mild to medium rain with lightning and thunder in some parts of the city!

High-speed winds

There are prospects for high-speed winds at 45 to 55 kmph today (Monday, 29th August) blowing across the Kanyakumari ocean Region, Bay of Mannar Region,  South Tamil Nadu coastal region, and Southwest Bay of Bengal adjacent to Sri Lanka. There may be an intermittent blow of high-speed winds at 65 kmph!

Cyclonic winds at speeds of 40-50 kmph may blow across part of Lakhdiv, Kerala coastal area, and the adjacent southeast Arabian Sea.

As such, fishermen are warned NOT to venture into the sea in these areas!
