It must be recalled that every year during the Pongal festival season and for the Pooja season Koyambedu market management normally opens a special market. From the year 2015 onwards, a special market has been functioning for Vinayakar Chathurthi festival.
It is well known that due to the Coronavirus infection pandemic the special market at the Koyambedu market complex was not opened. The infection has been brought under control now and normalcy has resumed in Chennai. Today, near the flower shop at the Koyambedu market complex a special market would be opened on the occasion of Vinayagar Chathurthi festival.
The special market would have items for Vinayagar Chathurthi festival like pori, sugarcane, pumpkin, turmeric bunch, banana fruits, banana leaves, coconut, flower garlands etc.

Officials belonging to the Koyambedu Market Management Committee revealed that the special market would be opened today so that the items required for Vinayaga Chathurthi festival could be purchased at cheap rates at one place. Information collected is that those who want to sell the items for the upcoming festival must get a permit ticket daily from the auctioneer. The permit would be valid for just 24 hours. From those who sell items without having a permission ticket, the items would be confiscated.
