The 47km stretch that would link places like Madhavaram and Sholinganallur would be of tremendous use for many metro train passengers in Chennai. As a result, many passengers are now hoping that this linking work gets completed fast. Now, CMRL has grabbed many eyeballs as it has resumed the piling works in many piling works at several places in Chennai.
Through main zones comprising many IT parks like Wipro, TCS, Infosys etc, the proposed corridor passes. In addition to these, the proposed corridor also passes through SIPCOT and Nehru Nagar industrial estate etc. The passengers would get a huge benefit with this proposed corridor because they now mostly ride the buses to reach their places in Chennai.
The good news is that the piling work of the elevated stretch along the Adyar River near Nandambakkam has started. This was brought out by the spokesperson from CMRL. It is known that the contract for the elevated stretch has been divided into 3 packages and it has been awarded. Information gathered is that the Corridors-5 elevated stretch would be 40.07km and 5km underground. Across all the elevated stretches, the pier works as well as the foundation works have begun and tender has been awarded also.
According to the official sources from CMRL, a tender for the underground stretch has been called. Out of a total of 48 metro stations, 6 stations would be underground. One station would be at grade and the rest 41 would be elevated stations.
To extend the metro rails corridor-5 from Thirumangalam to Avadi through Mogappair and Ambattur, the TN state government has announced a feasibility study. It is noteworthy that the stretch from Koyambedu market to Sholinganallur metro covers a length of 28.3km with about 30 stations under corridor-5. Point is that of 30 stations, 7 stations including Alwarthirunagar, Valasaravakkam, Karambakkam, Alapakkam and Porur are common for corridors 4 and 5.
