Chennai Egmore railway station to become world class with sensational latest facilities!!

In Chennai, Egmore railway station is being used by many is a known fact. There are few issues present in this important railway station. It is now said that this railway station would soon become world class with some latest facilities available at the station. To carry out several works at this railway station, tenders have been invited now.

This 114 year old railway station has some beautiful structures and every day 35 express trains and 240 suburban trains come and leave the station. The footfalls at this station are more than 24000 every day. For the financial year 2021-22, Egmore railway station got revenue of Rs 125 crores.

The Southern Railways or SR has proposed to upgrade the railway station to world class standards. For an amount of Rs 760 crores, the Railway board has given its approval to renovate this railway station in Chennai. The preliminary works have begun at this railway station.

Foundation stone has been laid by the PM of India Mr. Narendra Modi for renovating Egmore railway station when he visited Chennai on 26th May. On 8th June 2022 tender was called for. It is noteworthy that 4 big companies including L & T and Tata have sought the contract and it would be finalised in August.

According to some railways officials belonging to the Chennai Division, to finalise the tender for renovating the Egmore railway station, the railway engineering division officers of Chennai Division have been taking efforts. The renovation works would be completed within 3 years and the Egmore railway station would be reopened for public use from 2026.

The renovation project at the Egmore railway station would be carried out on an area of 69425 sq ft. To meet the demands for the next 50 years, the railway station would be equipped with some latest facilities that would be of world class standard. There would be separate arrival and departure facilities for the passengers. There would be up-gradation of buildings, platforms and surrounding areas into world class standards. For differently able passengers, important facilities like ramps, escalators and lifts would be provided.

Passenger seating facilities and accommodation etc at the Egmore station would be world class. For handling parcels, footbridges and elevators would be provided. Solar power would be used to meet the electricity demands of the station. In addition, there would be a modern car parking facility on both sides of the Egmore station.
