Issue that has been troubling many in the Maduravoyal - Tambaram bypass road!!

Absence of street lights along the Chennai Bypass on Maduravoyal - Tambaram has been an issue for a long time. The residents belonging to the areas along the stretch have mentioned that it was very difficult to drive along the stretch at night time. Information is that the 32km Chennai Bypass connects Tambaram with Kolkata Highway at Red Hills.

Many representations have been issued by the residents here regarding the absence of streetlights and still the issue has not been sorted out. This was according to the Members of the Federation of Maduravoyal Residents welfare Associations. As per Mr. Thirumal Adimai, secretary it was clear that several residents from localities such as Nolambur, Porur and Maduravoyal were also using the stretch.

It is true that the project was completed a decade back but the arterial road has remained dark and this has been making the drive here risky in the nights. In Porur, the service lane remained incomplete and it has been turned into a garbage dump.

Toll collection in Vanagaram plaza on the National Highway no 32 must be scrapped and this was mentioned by Mr. Yuvaraj, president of Aminjikarai Lorry Owners Welfare Association. He added that the NH 32 does not have basic amenities like drinking water facility or ambulance etc.

It must not be forgotten that in 2021 the authorities mentioned that the provision for lighting facility was included in the project estimate for developing it as a model stretch & an approval has been awaited. There are no street lights available here even now and in early August there would be a protest along with the resident`s federation for the sake of streetlights.

Information gathered is that an estimate for Rs 23 crore projects has been approved and by the end of July tenders would be called for.
