No more confusion regarding the site for the second airport in Chennai!!
In a day or in two days, the site or location of the proposed Greenfield airport in Chennai would be finalised.
On Tuesday, 26th July 2022, the industries minister of TN Mr. Thangam Thennarasu would be meeting the Union Civil Aviation Ministry in Delhi for getting site clearance for the new airport in Chennai. It must be taken into account that the government sources admitted to the likelihood of the meeting happening in one or two days.
It was brought out by Mr. General V.K. Singh, Union minister for State for Civil Aviation that the Tamil Nadu government was required to get the site clearance from the Civil Aviation Ministry under the Greenfield Airport Policy provisions. The TN industries minister has been doing his best to get the clearance as soon as possible.
Pannur and Parandur are the 2 feasible sites for the second airport in Chennai is a well known fact. Mr. P. Wilson, member of Rajya Sabha made many heads turn in the Upper House when he raised a query on the status of the OLS or Obstruction Limitation Surface Survey for the 2 above said sites for selecting an appropriate site. Point is the TN government has identified 4 sites for the second airport in Chennai and had requested AAI to carry out an inspection to find their suitability for the development of the airport.
It is noteworthy that AAI has found Parandur and Pannur more feasible and have submitted its pre-feasibility report to TNIDC.
