Penalty amount collection in Chennai - Fast and easy QR Code based digital payment facility to be introduced!!

In the future in Chennai, the collection of penalty amounts from the traffic violators would become fast and easy!!
Traffic police personnel have been collecting penalty amounts from the violators is well known. Soon, the traffic police department will be introducing QR code based digital payment of penalty amount. For this, they would be associating with the digital wallet firms.
It was revealed by Mr. Kapilkumar C. Sarathkar, ACP that the traffic police department would be joining hands with a digital wallet firm. He added that QR code scan standees would be obtained and it would be placed at all traffic police call centres. He threw light on how all the vehicle checking traffic police officers would be given QR code and by this penalty amount collection would become easy and fast.
It is noteworthy that the call centres that were launched for penalty amount collection from the motorists have been successful. Pending violation amounts were informed to the traffic rule violators by the 12 call centres and fine amount was paid within a week. Till Saturday, for the last 84 days, a penalty amount of Rs 3.31 crores (from as many as 219742 cases) has been collected by the Chennai traffic police from the traffic rule violators. It included old cases that were registered as early as March 2019 also.
Point to be noted is that as a part of the same exercise a special drive for payment of penalty money for drunken driving cases was also launched. An amount of Rs 1.68 crores was collected as fines from 1674 cases of drunken driving. An amount of Rs 5 crores around was collected in total from as many as 221416 old cases and more than Rs 6lakhs were collected as penalty amount from the newly reported 258835 cases. About Rs 11.31 crores was collected as penalty money in the last 84 days.
