Know about this shocking decision taken by GCC regarding West Mambalam canal?

Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC has been planning to beautify Mambalam Canal is known.
Now, GCC has decided to drop this beautification plan (by creating recreational spots) of this canal in Chennai. This has shocked and surprised many residents now. It is now said that the Thirupugazh committee was responsible for this decision of GCC. This Tirupugazh committee was appointed to study the reasons for flooding is well known to us.
It must be taken into account that during the November floods debris was dumped in the West Mambalam canal to implement the project. This affected the water flow from SWD leading to water logging for many days. It was explained by an officer belonging to GCC that desilting, water hyacinth removal and various other works would be carried out for the sake of uninterrupted flow of water.
He then threw light on how the plan regarding constructing bicycle paths, walkways and parks and seating etc would not be carried out by GCC. He concluded that restoring the canal to its capacity would be enough. Point is that in January 2021 GCC floated 5 tenders for beautification of Mambalam canal by creating greenery and recreational facilities etc. For a total of 1750m of work contractors were appointed by GCC.
