Whats happening regarding ITS implementation in Chennai that is making sensational news?

For a long time, GCC has been planning to implement an Intelligent Transport System or ITS installation project in Chennai. It seems that the time has come now for this and it will become a reality. It is now said that Chennai Corporation could soon award a contract for implementing ITS in the Chennai Metropolitan Area or CMA.
On 10th June 2022, 3 companies submitted bids and technical evaluation has been going on now. In another couple of months, it would be finalized. This was as per some officials belonging to Chennai Corporation. This project is being funded jointly by JICA or Japanese International Cooperation Agency and TN government and it would be carried out at a cost of Rs 904.88 crores.
In the beginning, the project cost was Rs 660crores but various components such as speed limit violation system and red light violation detection etc were incorporated later on. This was done after discussions with all the stakeholders including MTC, police department etc.
It is noteworthy that major components of the project are traffic information and management system or TIMS and city bus system or CBS. In 165 junctions in the Chennai city, adaptive traffic control systems would be installed under TIMS. This adaptive traffic control system could change the traffic signals depending on the real time traffic. At present, signals are changed manually or changed depending on the standard timings etc.
There would be signboards, road markings etc at the intersection of 165 traffic junctions. At 58 locations, traffic incident detection systems would be installed.
