Know about this latest important demand from the south Chennai residents??

Posted on: 16/Jun/2022 9:36:14 AM
MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation in Chennai is making news now for this reason!!

The south Chennai residents belonging to Chitlapakkam town panchayat have urged MTC to re-introduce S3 mini buses from Madambakkam to Chromepet. Before Covid-19 lockdown S3 buses were playing between these places in Chennai.

It is worthy to note that previously S3 mini bus covered localities like Madambakkam, Chromepet, Chitlapakkam, up to Tambaram Sanatorium railway station and has catered the residents in these localities in south Chennai. When Census was taken in the year 2011, Chitlapakkam had a population of 37906 with as many as 9960 households. Now in 2022 the population there has grown and it is now 60000. Fact is that the majority from Chitlapakkam belong to the working category and they depend mostly on the MTC buses.

According to Mr. Dayanana Krishnan of Chitlappakkam it was clear that until the Coronavirus pandemic struck there were 3 S23 mini buses and these buses were used by the residents to travel to major transit hubs mainly Tambaram Sanatorium railway station and Chromepet. To cut and cover drain works in Chitlapakkam, the S3 mini buses were stopped as they were not able to ply through this locality. These buses were diverted in several other routes.

Now, the drainage works have completed fully and the residents belonging to Chitlapakkam have been requesting the MTC to reinstate the S3 mini buses once again. It must be taken into note that the residents have already submitted a written request to MTC plus filed a complaint with CM cell. Till now, no action has been taken to reinstate S3 mini buses here.

It was then brought out by a resident from Chitlapakkam that lack of mini buses has been an issue for many residents in her locality as they had to travel around 3.5km to the nearby Tambaram Sanatorium railway station. She spoke about how she used to walk the distance to reach the railway station. Both mini buses as well as share autos are not available now in Chitlapakkam locality. By restoring the S3 mini buses here, many school going children would also benefit.
