Buildings in Chennai to be scanned now by drones!!

Posted on: 14/Jun/2022 8:58:02 AM
To crackdown on the number of illegal buildings in Chennai city, a special task force was formed more than 3 years ago. Now, this special task force would be doing a different work.

The latest news is that the special task force would use drones to review 149 buildings that have been under scanner for the violation of fire safety norms. It was highlighted by an official belonging to CMDA that a consultant would be hired by the CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority and then inspection would be done.

A separate study on the fire safety measures with alternate mechanisms was carried out in congested places like George Town, Purasawalkam, Triplicane and T. Nagar. He threw light about the passing of the order for carrying out the work. It must be noted that CMDA requires scientific data on the buildings and doing it manually would be time consuming.

It was mentioned by Mr. Sivaramakrishnan, fire consultant that drones would not be able to find out whether the sprinklers are working or not. No information would be obtained regarding whether sprinklers are connected to water pumps. Manual work must be done for this.

In T. Nagar in Chennai, surveys on 150 multi-storeyed buildings were carried out by the State Fire and Rescue Services Department. Information is that in most buildings water storage, provision of fire pump facilities and hydrant systems were not according to the National Building Code. It was found that many buildings do not have automatic water sprinkler systems also.
