The TN states interdepartmental committee recommendation to hike the fair from the current Rs 25 for the first 18 kms to Rs 40 for the first 18 kms has been rejected now. The residents of Chennai would soon be finding it tough regarding travelling in the autos as they would be fleeced by the auto drivers.
It is important to note that the committee report that was submitted to the govt for approval mentioned that after the base fare, the passengers would have to pay Rs 18 for every kilometre an increase from Rs 12 for every km.
Truth is that the proposed auto dares are 40percent more than the existing official rates that were fixed 9 years back.
