The Stanley Medical College Hospital or SMCH in north Chennai is an important hospital that has been providing quality treatments for the people. Yesterday, 9th June 2022, a fatty liver clinic was inaugurated at this hospital by the health secretary of TN Mr. J. Radhakrishnan.
These days, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or NAFLD has been making the lives of many people difficult and this clinic would help in treating the patients with this issue. It must be taken into account that NAFLD is the main reason for liver disease in India. Several causes for this NAFLD are obesity, type-2 diabetes, dyslipidemia etc.
Stanley Medical College Hospital organised a public awareness yesterday regarding sensitising people about NASH or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. It is known that yesterday 9th June 2022was the International NASH Day. In India, this NASH has been the second most common reason for liver transplants. An exhibition about fatty liver was organised by the Department of Medical Gastroenterology, SMCH and it was inaugurated by the health secretary of TN and in addition a clinic was also opened.
The burden of the disease and various strategies to reduce modifiable risk factors like obesity, diabetes, hyperlipidemia etc for preventing the disease were elaborated by Dr. Revathi, Head of the Medical Gastroenterology at SMCH, Chennai.
