The second prize for the best innovation in Indian Railways for the year 2020-21 has gone to the Integral Coach Factory or ICF in Chennai. The mechanical engineering team of ICF must feel happy and proud regarding this special award. It is learnt that the mechanical engineering team was led by Mr. K.N. Mohan deputy chief mechanical engineer. Assistant works managers Mr. K. Chandrasekaran and Mr. I. Asishtanathan were the other members of the mechanical engineering team.
Point is that section engineers like Mr. P. Elancheziyan , Mr. P. Elango and Mr. P. Mohanan etc also played their roles. For the innovation, the mechanical engineering team would get Rs 1 lakh cash prize. Information gathered is that this team had introduced an innovative solution in the assembly of air-conditioned as well as non-air conditioned LHB shells. It is worthy to note that in the new assembly works a 5 piece kit of 2 integrated sidewalls, one integrated roof and 2 end walls are being used in place of a 15 piece kit.
The superb piece of information is that an amount of Rs 44016447 has been saved for 185 non-ac LHB shells and for 384 A/C LHB shells by implementing the new method.
