A major part of the revenues earned by the local administrations including the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is from the collection of Property Tax!
As such, all major local administration including GCC has intensified their activities in collecting the pending Property Tax payments!
They have commenced taking stringent actions against the citizens who have failed to pay property tax on time!
In this regard, Thiruvallur Corporation has written a letter to TANGEDCO (Tamil Nadu Power Generation and Distribution Company) to cut off the electricity for 9 buildings in Thiruvallur for which property tax has not been paid!
There are 21500 residential connections and commercial establishments in the Thiruvallur district under the local administration. Out of these, several residences and commercial establishments have not paid the Property Tax, Water Tax, and Sewerage Tax and as such, large sums are due to be paid!
As of 31st May, the total payment due for the above-mentioned is informed to be Rs. 7.22 Crores! Because of this, the public is constrained to take up essential activities.
As such, the local urban administration has intensified the activity to collect the long-pending Property Tax.
In this scenario, the owners of 9 buildings located on CVN Road, JN Road, and Ahimsa Road have not paid their Property Taxes over a very long period! As such, Thiruvallur Local Administration Commissioner Rajalakshmi has written a letter to the TANGO Executive Engineer on 31st May appealing to cut off the electricity because of the long-pending unpaid Property Tax!
As such, the current status now is that failure to pay Property Tax on time may lead to electricity being cut off!!
