What has made the Chennai residents totally unhappy now?

Posted on: 18/Apr/2022 9:49:29 AM
The scorching summer days are back again in Chennai. People mostly use their air-conditioners to overcome the heat.

The residents belonging to places such as Velachery, Perungudi, Thoraipakkam, Medavakkam, Chromepet, Kodambakkam, T.Nagar, Korattur, Kolathur and Perambur etc are not at all happy.

After a cable faulted at Korattur substation, some parts of Korattur, Kolathur, Surapet etc face power outages in the midnight for nearly an hour. It is learnt that back feeding from another substation also took time.

According to a resident belonging to Surapet, it was clear that from the onset of summer there have been power cuts and voltage fluctuations in the locality. He threw light on how on Saturday power went off several times beginning at 11pm and finally restored around 2:30 am in the morning. The power supply went off for almost one hour at Kolathur.

Truth is that the 33kv cable fault at Anna Nagar substation was responsible for the power cuts in places like Korattur, Surapet and Kolathur etc. This was brought out by some sources belonging to Tangedco. Overloading due to increased use of air-conditioners has led to the cable fault. As all the lines were overloaded in the night, back feeding was carried out through another line and it failed in the first attempt. Power supply was restored after 45 minutes only. The damage in the power cable was responsible for power cuts in some parts of Thoraipakkam.

As per a resident of Thoraipakkam, many calls were made to Tangedcos call centre but they were not connected and the residents waited for a long time. The demand for power supply has come down in Tamil Nadu in the last few days due to several holidays nut Chennai citys power demand continues to be high only. This was mainly due to the residents using air-conditioners.
