Latest superb news about the Port - Maduravoyal project in Chennai!!

There has been a long delay in the construction of the Port-Maduravoyal double- decker elevated corridor project in Chennai. The news now is that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways have issued a notification to acquire lands for the above mentioned project. It is now said that in a couple of months, bids would be invited.
There would be construction of 13 exit and entry ramps as these were included in the TN state government�s request. Some changes were also made in the alignment.
It is noteworthy that the original elevated road in 2010 had entry as well as exit points at Koyambedu, Spurtank Road, Swami Sivanandha Salai, Port and Maduravoyal etc. Now, this revised double decker projects would have entry as well as exit points in 13 locations like Chintadripet, Montieth Road, Binny Road, Spurtank Road, Aminjikarai police station, Kamaraj Salai,Sivanandha Salai, College Road and Arumbakkam. In the previous design, there were just 6 entry as well as exit points.
Sources from NHAI have mentioned that earlier the elevated road from the Port would land before the grade separator at Koyambedu and take off after Koyambedu metro station. In the latest, from Port to Maduravoyal it would be fully elevated facility only. Vehicles plying to Port would be using the upper deck whereas the lower deck would have Chennai city traffic.
By June 2022, bids would be floated for the elevated expressway. To avoid issues, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has been insisting on signing an MOU by all the concerned stakeholders.
