An 8km 4 lane road on the Chennai Sea!! Sounds sensational right!!
A feasibility report is being prepared for the setting up of an 8km bridge to decongest the Chennai Port. In the future, just similar to the Worli- Bandra sea link, Chennai could also have its own sea link. The preliminary report has been submitted and it is now revealed that a new sea link between Chennai Port and Manali Road- Tiruvottiyur junction is taking shape slowly. This was as per an official belonging to the NHAI or National Highways Authority of India. Next month, a full-fledged detailed project report or DPR would be taken up.
It must not be forgotten that on 2nd November 2021 Aaarvee Associate Architects were issued the project of augmenting Chennai Port to Ernavur. The main objective behind this was to have a smooth movement of port related traffic. As per the project, there would be a 7.6km 4lane road with a median in the sea with port entrance Zero Gate km.0/000 to the next major junction at Ernavoor km 7/538. There are many industrial establishments like CPCL, MFL, Vichoor Industrial Estate etc present here and this upcoming project would be tremendous.
To improve 4 major roads connecting Chennai and Ennore ports, a special purpose vehicle was formed in 2001 consisting of NHAI, TN Govt, Chennai port Trust, Kamarajar port etc. It is important to mention that under Ennore- Manali Road Improvement Project, Ennore Expressway from Gate 1 of Chennai port, a length of 7.6km was developed into a 4 lane with both sides of service roads.
