Posted on: 22/Mar/2022 10:11:33 AM
It is known that Tangedco or Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company has set a target of adding 20000 MW solar power capacity along with 10000 MV battery energy storage system or BESS. This might become a reality by the year 2030.

Now, Tangedco is searching land parcels including vacant lands in the substations for setting up of ground mounted solar panels in the state of TN. It is learnt that as per the thumb rule Tangedco would need 80000 acres of lands for 2000 MW solar capacity. As per some sources belonging to Tangedco, the company was also in the process of identifying excess lands in procession of the utility after setting up a substation where no future expansion was planned.

It must be noted that letters have been sent to district collectors seeking to identify lands between 20 acres and 200 acres for installing solar plants ranging between 5 MW and 20 MW in the first phase. To ascertain the feasibility of lands that have been identified, the officers would visit the sites. Information collected is that due to the advancement in solar panel technologies the land requirement has come down from 5 acres to 3.75acres. As much as possible, government lands would be identified.
