Latest info about the construction of SWD in flooded areas in Chennai

Constructing SWD or storm water drains in the flooded places in Chennai is now the major aim of GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation. The news is that yesterday GCC has started issuing work orders for construction of SWD in the flooded places in Chennai. For this purpose, roads belonging to places like West Mambalam, T. Nagar, K.K. Nagar, Pulianthope, Alwarpet and Kasthurba Nagar have been identified by GCC

It is learnt that work orders for 10 packages of SWD was issued by the civic officers in the presence of the new Mayor R. Priya. Other important personalities who were present at the Ripon Buildings were Deputy Mayor Mr. Magesh Kumar, GCC Commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi.

Tenders were called for the storm water development work under Singara Chennai 2.0 at an estimated cost of Rs 184 crores. The SWDs would be built in places like Munusamy Salai. P.V. Rajamannar Salai, R.K. Shanmugam Salai etc. Other places like Seethammal Colony, TTK. Road and C.P. Ramaswamy Road would have SWD built at a cost of Rs 22.05 crores.

R.K. Lakshmanaswamy Salai would have SWD built at a cost of Rs 5.88 crores and P.T. Rajan Road would have SWD built at Rs 3.94 crores. At an estimated cost of Rs 24 crores, residential as well as commercial areas around Ripon Buildings would also have SWD�s network. At an estimated amount of Rs 60 crores, work would also be taken up in places like Ram Nagar, Kuberan Nagar plus in the Puzhuthivakkam Lake area in the Kovalam river basin.
