Know about the latest demand from Chennai train passengers

Posted on: 12/Mar/2022 9:40:10 AM
Recently, 31km broad gauge line started to operate between Tambaram and Chengalpet is known. It is true that it took 6 months of time from the completion of the third line project between these 2 stations and its operation. The passengers are demanding regarding railways cutting down the travel time of the express and weekly trains.

It is noteworthy that until now both express and suburban trains operated in 2 lines and this resulted in stopping of express trains in the peak hours of time.  A decade back, utilization of 2 lines has surpassed 100percent.  Point to be noted is that the third line is functioning as an up-line and facilitating the train movement from Chengalpet to Tambaram. Now, just a handful of Beach bound trains are operated on the third line from Chengalpet.

It was pointed out by an officer belonging to the railways that the new line would be used mostly for suburban trains and express trains would operate on the existing line. More than 5 lakh passengers have travelled along Chennai Beach- Chengalpet since March 2019. Now every day, 23 daily express trains and 7 weekly express trains operate.  Weekly and daily trains have been given slack time to make up for the delay and this has been creating issues for many commuters. The superfast trains cover the distance between Tambaram and Chengalpet in just 28 minutes.

From Chengalpet, the Puducherry-Chennai Egmore express trains take 43 minutes to reach Tambaram. Information is that Rameswaram-Chennai Egmore Sethu Express train and Tiruchendur-Chennai Egmore express trains have been given 33 minutes to cover the distance.

It is learnt that Nagerkoil- Chennai Tambaram tri-weekly express and Nagerkoil- Tambaram Antyodaya express trains cover the distance in 55 mi and 60 min respectively. A commuter spoke about how the Puducherry- Egmore train was used by many office goers.
