Sudden cancellation of free travel by women in the govt buses in TN - Whats going on?

Last year, the Tamil Nadu government had announced a scheme for the women regarding free travel in the government buses. This made sensational news at that time and many appreciated this scheme. It is well known that the TN government has been launching many schemes for the welfare of the people.
The lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic has led to a huge financial crisis for the Tamil Nadu government now. In this scenario, the minister for transport Mr. Rajakannappan has mentioned that this free travel for women in the government buses would be cancelled. This news has been spreading fast in social media now. As the Coronavirus pandemic was controlled in Tamil Nadu, urban local body elections would be held in TN on 19th February. The elections are going to be held after a gap of 3 years.
It is now brought out that those projects that were already implemented in the state would not be cancelled. Till now, no announcement or news regarding the cancellation of free travel for women in the government buses has come out. Point is that the social media has been spreading wrong information regarding the free travel for women in the government buses. The public need not worry about this at all.
