In many Chennai hospitals this is happening now!!

The number of inpatients in various government hospitals in Chennai has come down now and this is mainly due to the decrease in the number of Coronavirus cases. Over the past week, there has been significant reduction in the number of admissions in the hospitals. In the last 2 days, Chennai reported less than 1000 Covid-19 cases.

On 16th January 2022, Chennai reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases in a day in the third infection wave and that was 8987 cases. There are 14713 active Coronavirus cases now in Chennai and this included those who are in home isolation also.

Dean of RGGGH in Chennai Dr. Theranirajan expressed his thoughts and spoke about how drop in SARS- CoV2 infection has resulted in less number of admissions in the government hospitals in Chennai. He mentioned that out of 65 Covid-19 in-patients at this hospital 54 persons had tested positive and the rest had suspected symptoms of Covid-19 infection.  It is learnt that RGGGH had a maximum number of in-patients of 304 in this third wave on 10th January 2022. Every day just 7 to 10 persons get admitted in this hospital for Covid-19 treatment. It must be noted that earlier the hospital witnessed 45 to 50 in-patient admissions due to this infection alone.

It is important to note that at the Omandurar Government Medical College Hospital in Chennai there were as many as70 Covid-19 in-patients. As per the dean of this hospital Dr. Jayanthi as many as40 persons were on oxygen support. On 10th January, this Omandurar hospital had as many as 191 in-patients with Covid-19 infection which was the highest ever for a single day here. On Monday, the number of daily admissions dropped to just 7 from 22 in-patients earlier.

As many as 32 Covid-19 patients were present at the SMCH in Chennai s on Tuesday. This hospital had the highest number of admissions for Covid-19 infection on 13th of January and that was 209. Out of those, 189 were affected with Coronavirus infection and the rest had symptoms. Dr. Balaji, dean of SMCH mentioned that on 9th January this hospital had the highest number of admissions of 57ina single day.
