TN governments decision on conducting board examinations for the students!!

Posted on: 05/Feb/2022 9:17:09 AM
It was earlier announced by the TN government that the board exams for the students belonging to the classes 10 and 12 would be conducted in April or in May. Now, the school education department wants to discuss conducting board examinations for the students belonging to class 11.

From the academic year 2017-18, board exams were introduced for the class11 students and more than 8 lakhs appeared for the examinations. Last year, due to the spread of Coronavirus infection, the board examinations could not be organised for the students of class 10, 11 and 12.

According to a senior officer belonging to the school education department it was clear that the schools reopened only from 1st February and the teachers have been trying their best to complete the syllabus of the students of classes 10 and 12. It must be taken into account that the TN government hasnt yet announced conducting board exams for class 11 students.

Point is that the present class11 students did not have exams from class 9 onwards and conducting board exams might put huge pressure on these students. No revision tests have been planned for the students of class 11 and these students would not have any clue about the question papers.

The syllabus for the class11 students have not been completed in many government schools in TN now and by conducting board examinations these students would fail. This was also pointed out by the senior official. It is now brought to light that a detailed review meeting would be held soon to discuss issues regarding conducting board exams for class11 students. There were some discussions among the exam authorities regarding whether to conduct the class11 exams at the school level.

Mr. P.K. Illamaran, president of TN Teachers Association pointed out that the TN government must not cancel the board exams for class11 students. He threw light on how many private schools would teach class12 subjects in class 11itself to improve their results. He concluded that because of the Coronavirus infection the TN government might cancel board exams for class11 students but it must not be a permanent one.
