Government health scheme proves beneficial to all concerned

The Chief Minister�s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) has proved to be beneficial to patients are government hospitals alike. The hospitals, which have been starved for funds for many a year now, are making crores due to the Scheme.
The Scheme offers cash less treatment to patients whose annual income is less than Rs. 72000. The hospitals are then reimbursed by the government.
�We have been able to improve wards and upgrade facilities. We have invested in new cots and mattresses as well as equipment. For high-end surgeries, we have started using disposable aprons, which reduce infections� The top five revenue-generating departments are � cardiothoracic, medical hepatology, neurosurgery, urology and cardiology�, said Dean of the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital Dr. V. Kanagasabai.
