Shocking!! Chennai residents get ready to pay more money for getting drinking water!!

This piece of news would be shocking to many Chennai residents!!
It is now brought out that the CMWSSB or metro water department or MWD is thinking about increasing the charges for supplying drinking water in Chennai. Those residents who depend only on the metro water supply would have to shell out more from their purse to get drinking water. It is worthy to note that the rise in the charges would not be affecting those residents in tail end areas who are getting free water supply.
There is a proposal to increase the charges by 5% now for those consumers of residential, partly commercial and government buildings etc. This was as per the sources belonging to the metro water department. It is also mentioned that supplying tanker water to commercial establishments and industries etc would also increase by 10percent. The final decision to increase the charges would only be taken after discussion and this was mentioned by a senior officer belonging to MWD.
An amount of Rs 475 is being charged by MWD to supply 6000l of water for domestic purposes and Rs 735 for partly commercial purposes. Point to be noted is that for 9000 liters of lorry water for domestic usage an amount of Rs 750 is charged and for the same amount of water supplied for partly commercial usage Rs 1050 is collected by the metro water department. On Tuesday, the MWD received as many as 1046 bookings for 9000litres of water and 188 bookings for 600 liters of water. It is learnt that 75 bookings were received for 16000 liters of water supply.
To the slum and tail end places in Chennai, the MWD has operated 1308 trips of 9000llorries and1320 trips of 600l lorries on a free of cost basis. This was apart from supplying lorry water on a permanent basis.
