The recent very heavy rains in Chennai have made lives come to become standstill as various activities got affected!!
Many localities in Chennai were flooded and people were shifted to safer places are well known. A top government official has now revealed that soon, localities like T. Nagar, Saidapet, Egmore, Kolathur, Chepauk plus various flood affected areas in Chennai would be undergoing a major overhaul in their infrastructures. Truth is that the MLAs have begun submitting the petitions about the recently flooded localities in Chennai to the municipal administration department and to various other government departments. Various issues like water logging, sewage overflow, incidence of low lying electric cables, inadequate SWD etc were raised by the MLAs in the petitions.
Important information is that Kolathur would be undergoing major changes in traffic decongestion, floods alleviation and uninterrupted power supply. It is now said that the various issues that the constituency faced during the recent deluge is ascertained. Good news is that work regarding improvement has already started.
New pumping stations and additional water drains have been sought now by Egmore MLA Mr. Paranthaman. He had submitted a memorandum to the local administration minister Mr. K.N. Nehru regarding this. In the same way, the health minister Mr. M. Subramanian has made representation to municipal and civic officials regarding permanent deploying of motors for draining out water present in the subways. The PWD has been asked to ensure that the parapet walls along Adyar River are intact. The sources have mentioned that in Triplicane- Chepauk the drains were laid many years back and were narrow. Here, new lines with greater capacity have been planned.
New pumping stations were very much needed at Vepery to handle sewage overflow and to reduce flooding. Mr. Paranthaman concluded that many interior roads and educational institutions in places like Egmore, Choolai, Doveton etc lack SWD and a note was submitted regarding this already.
