Village heritage festival would be celebrated in a grand manner by Dakshin Chitra at its Muttukadu campus. At this festival that would take place from 24th December, various dance forms from the southern states of India would be present.
It must be noted that Thiruvathirakali is a unique dance that is performed in Kerala on the important day of Thiruvathira. It is now said that this unique dance would be performed by Folkland from 24th to 26th December in Dakshinachitra in Muttukadu. Point to be noted is that groups of 8 to 10 women would be dressed in the traditional Kerala attire and they would dance in a circle.
From 31st December to 2nd January, Kalaimamani S. Muthukumar would be the center of attraction as he would be performing Kaliattam, Kavadi and Karagattam etc. To those who do not know what Kaliattam is, it is a type of dance where the dancers wear the costumes of Goddess Kali/ Lord Shiva/ Goddess Parvati and perform energetic dances. In Kavadi dance a pole (made of teak wood) would be balanced with pots (filled with milk or coconut water) on both sides.
Information is that from 7th to 9th January, Dakshin Chitra would have Garudi Gombe performance by Pataladamma Janapada Kala Ballaga. Dancers with giant doll suits made of bamboo sticks would be performing in the Garudi Gombe folk dance. From 21st of January, Urumulu or thunder dance would be performed by Mr. U. Naganna. This dance is predominant in the Anantapur district belonging to Andhra Pradesh.
