A 5000 sq ft research facility, Centre for Clinical Trials and Research has been set up at SRMIST in Kattankulathur. This is now making sensational piece of news.
It must be taken into account that this research facility has been set up through its faculty of medical and health sciences and it was inaugurated by pro vice-chancellor, medical and health sciences, Mr. A. Ravikumar, registrar Mr. Ponnuswamy and Dean (Medical) Mr. A. Sundaram.
It was later mentioned by a release that this new research facility was capable of handling clinical trials of drugs, vaccines and medical devices. This facility is present at the SRM Medical College and Research Center.
There are 2 wards with 12 beds and several rooms for sample collection, processing, data documentation etc available in this center. Serum samples could be preserved at minus 80 degrees Celsius here. In addition, the center has got minus 20 degrees Celsius deep freezers, high speed centrifuge, facilities for electronic data capture with high internet speeds, thermohygrometers and data security maintained with controlled access.
The head of this center is Dr. Sathyajit Mohapatra, professor of pharmacology and his other team members include associate professor Melvin George and associate professor Sangeetha Raja.
