The latest news is that Tamil Nadus health department has signed a Record of Discussions or RoD with Japan International Cooperation Agency or JICA for a project of prevention and control of non-communicable diseases or NCDs in Tamil Nadu.

From the fourth quarter of 2021 fiscal, the project is expected to begin. The major objective behind this pact signed by TN and JICA is to focus on strengthening the managerial and technical capabilities of health personnel with respect to NCD prevention and control. This project would be another step towards health services and this was as per the chief representative of JICA, Mr. Saito Mitsunori.

With increase in the urbanisation, the chances of getting affected by non-communicable diseases have become more in the last few years. Therefore, there is a growing need to focus on these non-communicable diseases to avoid serious consequences later. It is really shocking to note that the death rate due to non-communicable diseases or NCD accounts for 63% of all deaths. According to UNICEF it was clear that the chances of deaths from NCD between the age 30 and 70 is 23percent.

It must be noted that during Covid-19 pandemic other diseases were overlooked and the hospitals gave preference to only Covid patients.
